Mountain House

The mountain house is sited in a landscape that changes with the season — in warmer summer months, the sugar maples draw the woodland close to the dwelling, filtering light falling from the sky through the canopy to the forest floor; in winter those same trees will hold the bare ground around the house as a landscape opened to views across a valley with neighboring hillsides and ridges that arise in sturdy folds like the floors of the saltbox.
