Springbrook Park

The text of Time:
This story of this community park originates with a small group of neighbors concerned with the impacts of high density land development in their community. When a desirable corner lot became available, neighbors joined together to persuade the country to purchase the land for a multi-use park in lieu of a ‘small lot / big house’ redevelopment alternative.Fortunately, this reclamation story was supported by the county and Park Pride, and following the implementation of the park design, it is up and running as a neighborhood green space.

Springbrook Details

The park demonstrates how a small land area can offer a wide array of recreational activities and community uses: it accommodated and included safe play areas, outdoor gathering space and handicapped accessibility; in addition the park included grounds for a wildlife habitat garden, plots for a community garden and introduction of an environmentally sustainable infrastructure that addressed site drainage, preserved existing trees and provided vegetative buffers between the park and adjacent residential properties. It is a pleasure to observe people sitting under the Springhouse roof, even on a winter’s day, as this former corner lot grows into a neighborhood destination.
