About William MatsonWill Matson is an experienced design-build professional with demonstrated success in the planning and construction of architectural landscapes for residential clients and community-based groups.
During high school, he volunteered to assist with growing bonsai at a local monastery outside Atlanta where he also became familiar with Japanese Garden construction. In the process, he discovered an interest in design that would develop into a life-long study of natural systems and the architecture of our built environment.
He pursued this focus as an undergraduate majoring in Art History and Architecture at Columbia University in New York, and through his studies, he developed a frame of reference for observing historic and contemporary landscapes in wide-ranging contexts and locations.
This undergraduate preparation opened up new ideas and possibilities with respect to engaging landscape design as a vocation, and he went on to complete a graduate degree in Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
The mission of that program was to approach the built environment as a ‘Design with Nature.’ It brought together issues of infrastructure, conservation and contemporary land use to design innovative concepts in ways that recognized familiar appearances as they also stepped beyond conventional practices.
Following his studies, he began his professional career working for landscape architectural studios in New York and Massachusetts that provided opportunities to apply this open-ended approach to projects in the private and public sectors.
Currently, Will lives and works in Atlanta, GA and, as an experienced design professional, he brings this creative background to project challenges. His seeks to preserve the best features of a site while adding compatible landscape improvements that build value and enjoyment of your outdoor living space.
